Secret Squirrel Mode: The Hidden Side of My Creative Work

The other day, while taking a short break in my studio, I found myself gazing out the window. It’s something I do when I need a moment to reset or spark a new idea. That’s when I spotted a squirrel in the garden – completely focused, darting around, busily burying nuts in the lawn. A creature on a mission, storing away its treasures, hidden from view.

And then it hit me: I’m not so different from that squirrel.

Collaboration

No, I’m not stockpiling snacks for winter! But much like that secretive little creature, a lot of the design and artwork I do stays hidden from the public eye. I often collaborate with agencies who hire me to help deliver creative projects for their clients. This means that while I’m very much involved in the process – concepting, designing, problem-solving – I can’t always shout about it. NDAs, white-label arrangements, and behind-the-scenes support are all part of the game.

So, while I’m proud of the work I produce, I’m often in what I like to call “secret squirrel mode.” The tricky part? It leaves me in a bit of a quandary when it comes to promoting my services. I can’t always show off the exciting design and artwork projects I’m working on – at least, not in the way I’d like.

Behind the Scenes

That said, the invisible nature of some of my projects doesn’t mean the work isn’t happening. Quite the opposite – there’s a lot going on behind the scenes, and if you’re an agency looking for reliable creative support or a business in need of flexible, expert input, chances are I can help.

So, if you’re after someone who can jump in, get the job done, and respect the boundaries of client confidentiality – I might just be your secret weapon.

Investigataing the Living Coral …

After extensive research and trend analysis the experts at Pantone have decided that ‘Living Coral’ is the Colour of the Year 2019.

Each year, Pantone offer a ‘Colour of the Year’, which can influence designers of all kinds. It can impact product development and purchasing decisions in fashion, home furnishing and industrial design as well as graphic design, product and packaging design.

How do they choose the colour?

To arrive at their choice, Pantone look at an extremely varied mix of influences. This includes films in production, new artists, fashion, travel destinations, lifestyle, new technologies, materials and textures, plus social media and socio-economic factors throughout the world. They even look at forthcoming international sporting events – so you can see that the basis for the choice is broad.

Colour psychology is important in design as the emotions evoked by colour influence buying decisions and choice. ‘Living Coral’ will no doubt therefore be at the forefront of design throughout the year and will play a large part in the graphic design of brands, and corporate identities as well as all other areas of design.
